Crew Interviews for A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2022

 

James River Theatre is proud to bring to life William Shakespeare’s classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Come play with us in New Orleans this winter as we jazz up this classic tale with a little revelry, and mischief. We are seeking an organized, creative, and self motivated crew member for the positions of Assistant Stage Manager, Props Master, & Costume Designer. Here at James River Theatre, we encourage diversity and welcome all genders, races and sexual orientations.

Interviews will be held by appointment only. To schedule an interview time please email info@jamesrivertheatre.com with your name, resume, and a PDF of your portfolio, if available, and list of conflicts.

 

MIDSUMMER will rehearse from January 24 - February 10, 2022 

with shows running February 11 -27 , Friday - Sunday.

Audition Information for 

A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2022

 

James River Theatre is proud to bring to life William Shakespeare’s classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Come play with us in New Orleans this winter as we jazz up this classic tale with a little revelry, and mischief. James River is looking for thirteen strong, physical, dramatic actors for our production of this timeless piece. Here at James River Theatre, we encourage diversity and welcome all genders, races and sexual orientations. All acting roles are available. See below list for descriptions. 

 

ALL ROLES ARE PAID. 

 

Auditions will be held at 

Dillard Fine Arts Center and Daura Gallery, 

Lynchburg, VA 24501

on December 4, 2021 from 10:30am - 3:00pm 


 

Auditions will be held by appointment only. To schedule an audition time please email info@jamesrivertheatre.com with your name, headshot, resume, a list of conflicts, and any specific roles you would like to be considered for.

 

We ask at this time that everyone please wear their mask within the The Dillard Fine Arts Center building per the CDC’s guidelines. If you do not feel comfortable auditioning in person at this time, video submissions will be accepted; all video submissions are due by December 3. 

 

Please prepare a 1-2 minute Shakespeare monologue in any style and bring a printed headshot and resume. 


 

Callbacks will be held December 4, 2021 from 4:30pm to 10:00pm. Sides will be provided. 

 

MIDSUMMER will rehearse from January 24 - February 10, 2022 

with shows running February 11 -27 , Friday - Sunday.


 

ROLES

Titania [female, age flexible]- The Queen of the Fairies and unhappily married to Oberon.

Hippolyta [female, age flexible] - The Queen of the Amazons engaged to marry Theseus (will be double cast as Titania)

Oberon [male, age flexible]- The King of the Fairies and is unhappily married to Titania (will be double cast as Theseus)

Theseus [male, age flexible]- - Duke of Athens, recently returned from conquering the Amazons, a race of warrior women and is about to marry the conquered Amazon Queen Hippolyta.(will be double cast as Oberon)

Bottom [male, 20’s to 30’s]- Is a weaver in Athens. He is rehearsing to be in a play for the Duke’s wedding celebrations.

 

Puck [female or male identifying, 20’-30’s]- Also called Robin Goodfellow, is a fairy and Oberon’s servant. A mischievous fairy who delights in playing pranks on mortals.

Demetrius [male, 20’-30’s]- A young nobleman of Athens. In the past he acted as if he loved Helena, but after Helena fell in love with him, he changed his mind and having the approval of Egeus, he pursues Hermia.

Hermia  [female, 20’-30’s]- The daughter of Egeus who is in love with Lysander. She is very strong-willed and independent.

Lysander [male, 20’-30’s]- Young nobleman of Athens. In love with Hermia. Hermia’s father is against her marrying him, he persuades Hermia to run away from home & family into the forest.

Helena [female, 20’-30’s]- Hermia’s best friend who is in love with Demetruis but he does not love her back.

Egeus [male, age flexible ] - The father of Hermia. (will be double cast as Philostrate)

Philostrate [male, age flexible] - Theseus’s Master of the Revels who is responsible for organizing the entertainment for the Duke’s marriage celebration. (will be double cast as Egeus)

Peaseblossom, Moth, Cobweb, and Mustardseed [male or female identifying, age flexible]– Fairies who serve Titania 

Peter Quince [male or female identifying, 20’s - 30’s] - A carpenter and the writer/director of the play to be performed for the Duke.

Francis Flute [male, 20’s - 30’s] - The bellows-mender chosen to play Thisbe in the play. 

Robin Starveling [male or female identifying, 20’s - 30’s] - The tailor chosen to play Thisbe’s mother in the play.

 

Snug [male or female identifying, 20’s - 30’s] -  The Joiner. Chosen to play the lion in the play. 

Tom Snout [male or female identifying, 20’s - 30’s]- The tinker chosen to play Pyramus’s father in the play.
